Jakarta, 16 June 2025 – SCG, a regional business leader with diverse business units, continues to reaffirm its commitment to conducting business ethically and responsibly toward all stakeholders, including the Indonesian community. Through its subsidiaries, PT Semen Jawa and PT Tambang Semen Sukabumi, SCG successfully received First Place in Top Partner Award category and Second Place in Corporate Environmental Stewardship Award category at the Forum CSR Award 2025, held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The awards were presented by Mr. Dedi Mulyadi, Governor of West Java, at Graha Pupuk Kujang Building, Karawang Regency, along with other top-performing CSR companies.
On this occasion, Dedi Mulyadi, Governor of West Java, delivered a message in his speech encouraging companies operating in West Java to utilize their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to develop the areas surrounding their operations. “Don’t go too far just yet, start with those closest to you. Show love to the nearby communities first,” said Dedi.
Peramas Wajananawat, President Director of PT Semen Jawa & PT Tambang Semen Sukabumi, stated, “We believe that business growth must go hand in hand with community development, especially around our operational areas. We deeply appreciate the recognition from the West Java Provincial Government. This award motivates us to continue contributing to the advancement of environmental, social, and governance aspects in West Java.”
The Top Partner Award is a form of recognition given to companies that provide the most significant contributions through their investments in various CSR programs. Meanwhile, the Corporate Environment Responsibility Award is aimed at companies that consistently support sustainable systems in their business operations and demonstrate innovation in managing production waste and utilizing environmentally friendly energy. These two awards serve as tangible proof of SCG’s commitment to strengthening ESG implementation, particularly through social programs and innovations that support the realization of a green industry in Indonesia.
SCG’s Flagship Programs in Advancing ESG Principles in the Industry
SCG, through PT Semen Jawa and PT Tambang Semen Sukabumi, implement more than 80 CSR and Community Development programs each year, designed based on community needs and integrated with government work plans. Several flagship programs have delivered tangible impacts for local communities, such as SCG GESARI (Gerakan Desa Berdikari), which focuses on empowering MSMEs and unlocking village potential; SCG ASIK (Aku Suka Ikan), aimed at stunting prevention; and SCG Gempita (Gerakan Mencapai Cita), which enhances vocational skills. SCG has also implemented various infrastructure improvement programs, including contributing to the enhancement of road quality spanning over 26.395 kilometers since 2016 across several areas in Sukabumi. In the field of education, the company has carried out programs such as providing educational scholarships, improving school facilities, supplying clean water infrastructure, and implementing various other community empowerment initiatives.
In addition, PT Semen Jawa and PT Tambang Semen Sukabumi have been recognized as companies committed to environmental management. This commitment is reflected in the use of low-carbon energy sources such as biomass from agricultural waste, the utilization of industrial waste, and the development of an integrated waste management facility using Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) technology as an alternative fuel for cement production. The companies have also invested in advanced technologies, including the installation of solar panels. Beyond internal efforts, PT Semen Jawa and PT Tambang Semen Sukabumi actively engage surrounding communities in environmental preservation through the SCG Mentari (Menjaga Lingkungan Tetap Lestari) program.
SCG Mentari Encourages Community Participation in Environmental Management
In 2023, SCG launched the SCG Mentari program as an effort to raise public awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. The program encompasses various activities, including environmental awareness campaigns, community-based waste management, natural rehabilitation efforts, and collaborations with relevant partners.
Environmental awareness is being fostered through the Sekolah Generasi Mentari initiative, which aims to provide environmental education to the nation’s younger generation. Since the program’s launch, the company has supported an elementary school in Wangunreja Village to become an environmentally conscious school. Various initiatives have been implemented, such as the Circular Economy Class held every Friday, the Little Farmers Program, where students are taught gardening through hands-on training, and waste processing activities that transform trash into school decorations. These efforts have borne fruit, with SDN Wangunreja receiving the Adiwiyata Award from the Regent of Sukabumi. This year, SCG plans to expand the program by adding three partner schools to inspire even more environmentally minded young generations.
The company has also established an environmental enthusiast community called SCG Warrior Mentari, which serves as a platform for individuals committed to protecting and preserving the environment. Currently, 16 young people have joined the program and received various self-development trainings as well as education on waste and environmental management, equipping them to contribute more effectively to their communities. As part of its commitment to sustainability, SCG has initiated community-based waste management activities in several target areas. Through these initiatives, residents are encouraged to sort and collect household waste, which can then be exchanged for various household products. The collected waste is later processed into alternative fuel for cement production. This initiative aims to raise environmental awareness and promote active community participation in sustainable environmental stewardship.
Syamsudin, Vice Chair of SCG Warrior Mentari, stated, “The SCG Mentari program has brought real change to our village. Due to limited knowledge and waste management facilities, most residents used to dispose of their waste in rivers or burn it. Since the introduction of SCG Mentari, the community has become increasingly enthusiastic about sorting their waste. Since November 2024, we have collected over one ton of waste from local residents to be exchanged for various household products. Our excitement grew even more when we learned that this waste would be utilized by the company as alternative fuel.”
